Heels and Toes
Balancing on the toes is a functional and very useful exercise. It also uses nearly all the muscles in the feet and lower legs simultaneously to maintain balance in forward-backward and side-to-side directions, to keep the wieght only on the toes and not drop to flat feet, and to ensure the ankle stays in alignment and doesn't give to one side or the other.
Therefore these exercises are set out in a deliberately progressive way, from easy and only partial weight on the toes and ankles, to full weight, standing, with a good support, to balancing without support. Therefore, take your time and make sure you have mastered each one and feel comfortable progressing further before you try a new exercise.
Before you take all your weight onto one foot, you must be comfortable at fully weight bearing on both feet, without support.
